Tour Overview
Take a full-day heritage tour that is a journey through time to Changu Narayan and Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a living museum. The day unfolds over sacred hilltops and medieval towns, blending mythology, ancient craftsmanship, and spiritual sanctity into a cultural experience of approximately 8 hours.
Your guide will meet you at your hotel at 9:00 am and drive you in a private vehicle to the village of Changu, located on a quiet hilltop about an hour east of Kathmandu. The journey offers scenic views of the surrounding valley and, depending on the season, extensive paddy fields reflecting rural life at its most authentic.
Your first destination is the Changu Narayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Nepal’s oldest pagoda-style temples, claimed to have been originally constructed in 323 A.D. and dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is a fine example of Nepalese art and architecture, with richly carved stone and wood images scattered around the courtyard. You will spend around an hour exploring the temple complex and the Changu Museum, which contains ancient statues, inscriptions, and artifacts revealing the development of Hindu iconography and Nepalese artistry.
The walk leads through hidden back lanes and courtyards into Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the old royal center of the city — home to many architectural and cultural gems of the Malla era.
After a satisfying day of architecture, history, and sensory exploration, you are returned to Kathmandu by private vehicle and dropped off at your hotel.
