The Dhampus trek is a short adventure trek that falls into the heart of the Annapurna region. This trek is best for those travelers who have very limited time and still want the best experience of the beauty created by the great Himalayas, unique traditional Nepali culture, and warm village hospitality. This place is situated at a height of around 1,650 meters. By trekking in this place, you can witness various stunning views of some of the most majestic peaks, such as Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri. Here at Excursions, we are proud to organize this short trek that offers amazing Himalayan scenery. This trek is fully designed for a 9-day package, and 5 of those days are actually spent in the trekking.

Details

The Dhampus trek actually begins with a scenic drive from the starting points of the trek, i.e., Pokhara to Phedi. From the Phedi, the trails slowly go uphill by crossing the lovely rhododendron forests, stepped farmland, and the beautiful traditional Gurung villages. The Dhampus trek is perfect for families trekking for the first time and for those travelers who want a gentle introduction to the Himalayas. This trek is relatively easy compared to other trekking routes, such as Annapurna Base Camp, Everest Base Camp, and the Manaslu Circuit trek. It is suitable for trekkers of all ages and those with moderate fitness levels.

The best part of this trek is reaching the beautiful village of Dhampus. It is situated at the top of the ridge, giving a vintage view of sunrise and sunset over the snow-capped peaks. After sunrise, when the first ray of sun hits the majestic mountains like Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri, the view is so amazing and beautiful that it takes your breath away and fills you with awe. The moment you see the ray strike the giant mountains, you will have an unforgettable moment as it offers a scene of incredible natural beauty and peacefulness.

Accommodation is provided in comfortable tea houses and lodges, which have all the essential facilities. In this cozy tea house, trekkers can fully enjoy the hot showers at any time, use high-speed Wi-Fi, and stay in a comfortable single or double bedroom. If you are trekking with your group, we can also arrange for group accommodations. While staying in the cozy tea house, you will be provided with fresh and well-prepared local meals that offer the best taste of Nepali Cuisine. This type of food is often shared with friendly local people and other travelers.

Besides the natural beauty created by massive mountains, the Dhampus region also helps you to get a great experience of the culture and the daily lifestyle of the Gurung people. While trekking in this region, you can also interact with the local people, discover their unique traditions, and witness their everyday way of life and agricultural practices. The peaceful atmosphere, combined with warm welcomes by the locals, makes your trip a more special and unforgettable cultural experience.

The Dhampus trek is also considered a great spot for acclimatization if you plan to do a longer trek in the future. This trek is short and one of the best ways to experience the beauty of the Himalayas without trekking to the tough climbs and high elevation in longer treks such as the Everest Base Camp trek.

If you want a short trip into nature, a quiet gateway into the mountains, and an opportunity to experience local culture, the Dhampus trek with the Destiny Excursion can be the perfect place as it offers you a small but full taste of the Himalayas. It’s more than just a hike—it’s an ideal entry point to experience the enchanting mountain scenery and local culture of Nepal.

Your journey begins when you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. You will be greeted upon arrival amidst the chaotic but lively atmosphere of the capital city of Nepal. Our friendly representatives will welcome you at the arrival gate with a placard bearing your name. They will greet you with a traditional "Namaste" and a marigold garland, then lead you to your private vehicle and drive you through the crowded streets and colorful markets of Kathmandu to your hotel. When you arrive at the hotel, you will complete the check-in and be led to your room. Spend some time getting settled, refreshing yourself, and napping after your journey. The hotel offers a serene and quiet space so that you may relax while absorbing your first impressions of Nepal. Later in the evening, you are warmly invited to a welcome dinner hosted by Destiny Excursion.

The meal will feature a range of Nepalese tastes—typically dal bhat (lentil soup and steamed rice), seasonal vegetables like saag (spinach or mustard greens), tangy achar (homemade pickles), and dahi (cool, creamy curd). As you eat, there will be a brief introductory session when you shall meet your guides, your fellow trekkers, and some of the members of our support crew. To get you immersed in the mood of Nepal, we shall also organize a cultural program with live traditional music and folk dance. Day 2: Trek Preparation + Permit Day

After a good night's rest, you shall begin the day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. It's a very important day of acclimatization and preparation for the trek. You shall go over the itinerary, expected conditions, safety protocols, and equipment list, and answer any questions you have. This gets you both physically and mentally ready for the days ahead.

Following the briefing, there is time to complete any last-minute shopping—whether it's buying a pair of trekking poles, renting a sleeping bag, or loading up on trail snacks. Your guide or our representative will be pleased to assist you in finding your way around the local shops and gear stores in Thamel, Kathmandu's vibrant tourist hub. Following this, you head towards the Nepal Tourism Board to get the required permits for the Annapurna region. If nothing goes wrong, you can easily get them within one or two hours. Day 3: Fly to Pokhara (822m/2,696feet)

Your journey to the Annapurna region (Dhampus area) begins when you reach Kathmandu (the capital city of Nepal). After reaching Kathmandu, depending on your schedule, preferences, and budget, you can have two options: either taking 25-minute scenic flights or a 6-7-hour drive to Pokhara (822m). If you prefer to fly over Pokhara, we can arrange the flight for you as well. While heading towards Pokhara through flights, you can witness the spectacular views of snow-capped mountains such as Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and the Annapurna ranges. On the other hand, if you choose to travel by road, you have to drive along the Prithivi Highway. While driving along the Prithvi highway, you can witness Nepal's lush hills, river valleys, traditional settlements, and terraced fields. It is one of the great ways to experience the countryside of Nepal more closely.

After you reach Pokhara, you can witness the stunning beauty of this lakeside city, surrounded by majestic mountains of the Annapurna range. The renowned Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountain towers majestically in the sky, heightening your anticipation for the trek ahead. Pokhara is a peaceful city known for its warm hospitality, suitable atmosphere, and the beginning points for many Nepal best treks. During the evening, you can walk to nearby places along the lakeside. This lakeside place is often considered a tourist-friendly area, having many cafés, gear shops, restaurants, and handicraft stores.

Day 4: Drive to Phedi (1,130m) and Trek to Dhampus (1,694m/5,558 Feet)

This day marks the beginning of your actual trekking experience in the Annapurna region. After breakfast at your hotel in Pokhara, you shall check out and prepare for your journey into the hills. Our private jeep will be waiting outside to take you to Phedi, the starting point of the trek. The drive itself, though short—approximately 40 minutes—is scenic and soothing. You shall pass through green hills, rice paddies, and local roadside villages, all set against the stunning backdrop of distant snow-capped peaks. As you reach Phedi, the landscape becomes more rural and peaceful, signaling the start of a more natural and grounded adventure.

From Phedi, your trek officially begins. The trail starts with a steep ascent right from the base, and while it may seem physically demanding at first, the path rewards you at every turn. You shall walk on stone steps that meander through dense forests, open terraced fields, and sleepy hillside hamlets. Along the way, you shall encounter traditional Gurung settlements—charming villages with neatly maintained homes, where locals greet you with warm smiles, and children play freely in the yards. The scenery gradually unfolds as you climb higher, revealing breathtaking views of the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain), Lamjung Himal, and even glimpses of the Pokhara valley below.

The ascent to Dhampus usually takes around 2.5 to 3 hours of steady walking. We encourage a slow and mindful pace, allowing you to enjoy the serene surroundings and adjust to the changing elevation. Once you arrive in Dhampus, you shall be welcomed with spectacular mountain views and the peaceful atmosphere of a high hilltop village. After checking into a local tea house, you can relax, take in the views, and enjoy a warm local meal as the sun sets behind the hills.

  • Overnight: Tea house

Day 5: Trek to Landruk (1628m/5,341feet)

After you wake up early in the morning, you get a hearty breakfast. After you eat breakfast, your journey begins. On this day, you move ahead to the Landruk from Dhampus. The path to Landruk is slowly downhill as you have to pass the forested paths, terraced farmland, and scenic ridgelines. Along this route, you have to pass the charming village of Pothana, which is known for its strategic location and panoramic mountain views. Throughout the trek, you can see paths sprinkled with rhododendron trees and wildflowers, and the occasional glimpse of the wildlife makes delightful walks, especially for the nature lover.

After hiking to Pothana, you then trek downhill to reach Modi Khola Valley before reaching the beautiful village of Landruk. This valley of Gurung people is not as popular as the neighboring village (Ghandruk), but it is just as beautiful and charming. You can see the magnificent view of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli by sitting in this valley. This village will help you to know the lifestyle of the people who live in this area. Additionally, you can find stone-built houses, traditional farming, and friendly people who are willing to share their culture.

After reaching Landruk, our company helps you to stay in a comfortable tea house that consists of several essential facilities such as a cozy bed, well-prepared meals, and high-speed internet. After having a delicious meal, you can additionally explore the village and experience the stunning views. Otherwise, you can simply rest in a cozy tea house. The great and peaceful view and the natural beauty make Landruk a perfect place to reflect on the journey.

  • Overnight: Tea house
  •  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 6: Ghandruk Trek (2,012m/6,601feet)

This day can be the most memorable day for you, as you get to enjoy the local culture and see the most picturesque views. After breakfast, you leave Landruk and move forward towards the Modi Khola. On trekking to the Modi Khola, you have to cross the suspension bridge that provides you with an opportunity to move to the other side of the valley. From here, you need to climb uphill on forests and stone steps that take you to the village of Ghandruk. Uphill climbing would take you about 4-5 hours, depending on the pace, condition of the trail, and the amount of resting done on the way. This trek could be challenging if you are new to it, but it is also very rewarding. You can easily spot this village because of its unique architecture and the special cultural aspects of the huge Gurung village.

Ghandruk is not only famous because of the fantastic Himalayan scenery, such as Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre, but also because of its rich heritage. As you arrive at Ghandruk, you can stop by the excellent Gurung Cultural Museum, stroll through the old stone-paved streets, and get a glimpse of the life of indigenous people. In the evening, you have to stay with us at a nicely facilitated guesthouse with ample options such as hot showers, private or shared rooms, and good food. Ghandruk has been termed as a highlight spot of the trek because of its blend of cultural richness, beautiful surroundings, and community atmosphere. The warm hospitality of the Gurung people and the scenic beauty together make this day on the trek memorable.

  • Overnight: Tea house
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 7: Drive Back to Pokhara

You will wake up within the peaceful hilltop village of Dhampus to begin your day with a hearty breakfast amidst the beautiful backdrop of the majestic Annapurna range. It is a breathtaking way to start your day to see the morning light spreading over the mountains of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South.

You will have a chance to take some last-minute photographs, breathe in the mountain air, and enjoy the tranquility one last time before saying goodbye to this scenic village. Once you are ready, we will begin our journey back to Pokhara. We will arrange for a private jeep to drop you off, and the drive usually takes 2.5 to 3 hours. As you descend from the high hills to the valley floor, you shall be passing through familiar landscape—field terraces, villages, and hill forests. The return is time to think in quiet reflection upon the experience of the past few days as you leave the remote mountainous world behind to relapse into the busy city life. Arriving in Pokhara, you shall be back at your hotel. The remainder of the afternoon and evening is yours to unwind.

You might like to stroll along Lakeside, enjoy a peaceful boat ride on Phewa Lake, or simply sit in one of the lakeside cafes with views of the lake and hills. Pokhara's laid-back charm is just what you need after trekking days. Evening: Enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the several local eateries or a party dinner with your team.

Day 8: Fly Back to Kathmandu (1,400m / 4,600ft)
