Everest base camp is one of the most iconic as well as adventurous trekking paths located in the Himalayas. The path leading to Everest Base Camp leads you into the heart of the Khumbu area, beginning with an exhilarating flight over the mountains to the famous Lukla airport. From this airport, you pass the great sherpa villages such as Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and Dingboche, which provide the best panoramic views like Mt Ama Dablam, Mt Lhotse, Mt Nuptse and the majestic Mt Everest. The scenery changes from green forest to dry, high mountain areas covered with ice, rocks and snow. You can get the opportunity to ascend Kala Patthar (5,555 meters), which offers one of the best stunning views of Mount Everest.

Itinerary

Your journey begins when you arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. Upon arriving at the airport, our representatives will meet and warmly welcome you. After this, you will be escorted to our hotel, where you can complete your check-in, relax, and get ready for the evening. During the evening, you will join us for dinner with a variety of common natural foods like dal bhat (lentils and rice), vegetables like sag (leafy greens), achar (pickles) and lastly, dahi (curd). Additionally, there will be a small introduction of all the representatives alongside your guides. Along with food and the introduction, there will be music and dance for entertainment.

After breakfast, we meet for a more detailed trek briefing. Here, you shall be introduced to your guide and support crew, check trekking gear, and finalize permits and logistics. This session ensures that you are well-prepared and confident for the adventure ahead. Once everything is in order, we begin our scenic drive to Ramechhap, which is the gateway to Lukla flights. The journey takes around 4 to 5 hours and winds through beautiful countryside, terraced fields, and quiet villages. This drive shortens the early morning hassle for your Lukla flight and gives you a glimpse into the rural lifestyle of Nepal, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Today is the beginning of your real adventure to Everest. We make an early morning drive to the airport and board a short yet spectacular 30-40-minute mountain flight to Lukla, gateway to the Everest region. The flight gives breathtaking views of eastern Himalayan peaks, lush valleys, broken villages, and cloud layers below. Following a landing at Lukla’s airstrip high up in the mountains, we welcome the rest of our trekking crew and begin our trek. The trail descends gently down through pine forests, Sherpa communities, and the bellowing Dudh Koshi River. We arrive at Phakding after approximately 3-4 hours of trekking.

Today we trek deeper into the Khumbu region with a 6-7 hour trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m). There are some suspension bridges along the route, including the Larja Dobhan Bridge, Monjo Suspension Bridge, and the notable Hillary Bridge. After crossing the Monjo Bridge, we technically step into Sagarmatha National Park and move along dense pine woods on a steep slope. The final 3 hours to Namche is quite fast, and in good weather, you may get your first glimpse of Mt. Everest. Namche Bazaar is the main trading village of the Khumbu area – a bustling bazaar of locals, trekkers, and a bustling Saturday market. It also serves as the base for expeditions into the inner Everest district.

Today is a rest and acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar (3,440m), a crucial step before ascending further into the Himalayas. Overlooked by towering peaks and nestled between two ridges, Namche is a beautiful setting in which to rest and acclimatize to altitude. We begin the day by exploring the town and visiting the Sagarmatha National Park Headquarters, where you’ll find a statue of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and a museum showcasing his achievements and Sherpa heritage. A short, scenic two-hour hike takes us up to the Everest View Hotel, where, weather permitting, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Tabuche, and Kusum Khangkaru.

We trek for 5-6 hours from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche (3,867m), climbing gradually as we travel deeper into the Khumbu. Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam are seen most surprisingly well from the path, with scenic forest paths, hillside villages, and river crossings along the way. Tyangboche boasts its renowned Tyangboche Monastery, the largest and most important monastery in the district. Surrounded on all sides by towering Himalayan peaks, the environment is peaceful and spiritually charged. We spend the night at a tea house near the monastery, with sweeping panoramas of the mountains, especially the dramatic sunrise and sunset when the peaks glow golden.

We bid farewell to Tyangboche and make our way towards Dingboche (4,410m) via a 5-6 hour hike. We descend steeply through beautiful rhododendron forest, eventually coming to a bridge that crosses the Imja Khola via a suspension bridge. We then make a gradual climb to Pangboche, a Sherpa village with close-up views of the massive Ama Dablam, which dominates the eastern horizon and remains a constant, motivating presence throughout our journey. As we ascend higher, the terrain becomes more open and alpine in nature, with wide valleys and scattered stone walls marking the approach to Dingboche.

Elevation: 4,410 m

Today is a day of rest and acclimatization so that your body can get used to the increasing altitude. We begin the day with a slow, easy breakfast to prepare you for a gentle but rewarding trek. Our final destination is Nangkartshang Peak, which stands at 5,083 meters. This moderately tough acclimatization trek is well worth the effort, taking you to a fantastic lookout point over the surrounding Himalayan giants. From the summit, you’ll be treated to breathtaking, panoramic views of Mt. Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Island Peak – some of the most iconic mountains in the region. The fresh mountain air and stunning scenery create a perfect setting for reflection and preparation before the next stage of the trek.

Elevation: 4,910 m

We trek up a wide valley today that is framed by the high peaks of Tawache and Cholatse to the left. The route then goes to the right and climbs more severely towards the base of the Khumbu Glacier. At the top of this climb, there are numerous cairns of stone – remembrances of the Sherpas and climbers lost attempting to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. This poignant location allows for a moment of reflection among the stunning mountain scenery. Today’s hike is approximately 5-6 hours to Lobuche, where we’ll rest and acclimatize before the next stage of the trip.

We embark early in the morning from Lobuche in anticipation of a long but rewarding trek of approximately 8-9 hours. The first half of the hike shall be approximately 3 hours as we follow the rim of the Khumbu Glacier to reach Gorakshep, where we take lunch. After a break, we go further along to the legendary Everest Base Camp by hiking along the glacier – half along rocky moraine and half along ice. The round trip to the base camp takes around 5-6 hours. At the base camp, respect the active expeditions and climbers who are acclimatizing in order to make their climb. Appreciate this stunning milestone, being one of the world’s highest base camps, for a while, before going back down to Gorakshep.

We begin the trek early to climb to Kala Patthar (5,555m), well known as the best viewpoint in the Everest region. Located below Mount Everest, Kala Patthar offers stunning panoramic views of the massive Himalayan peaks. When the morning dawns, the mountains erupt in a kaleidoscope of colours so stunning that it is an image that cannot be forgotten. This is the perfect moment to capture awe-inspiring photos and stop and think about the magnificent experience so far. Following a viewing of the sunrise and scenery, we hike back down to Gorakshep for a hearty breakfast. Following breakfast, we continue our trek down to Pheriche, descending through beautiful sceneries and villages as we trek to the next stop in our tour.

On this day, we walk from Pheriche to Phortse, a 5-6 hour easy downhill trek on a gentle path. We traverse along the riverbanks of the Imja Khola en route, trekking over rolling valleys and terraced rice fields. If you are lucky, you can spot some of the region’s native animals like wild Yaks just grazing peacefully and the rare Himalayan Thar scurrying up the steep hills. The trek features a peaceful combination of nature and man-made landscapes as we journey towards the beautiful village of Phortse.

Elevation: 3,440 m

From Phortse, we start our descent to the bridge spanning the Dudhkoshi River, wallowing in fresh mountain air and picturesque scenery. Having crossed the river, the trek will steeply rise up to the village of Mongla, offering brief views of the scenically broken landscape as well as the native vegetation. Following the ascent, we continue on a pleasant and gentle walk through dense forests of rhododendrons with colours in bloom in the flowering season and full of native wildlife. The trail meanders gently through this picturesque scenery for some hours. After around 5-6 walking hours, we head back to Namche Bazaar, the bustling hub of the Khumbu region.

From Namche Bazaar, we descend down with a gentle downhill trek which takes about 2 hours. On this part, we pass through the small, serene village of Jorsale, which is nestled in the hills and has lovely views of village life. Leaving Jorsale behind, the trail settles into an easy and comfortable walk through the lush valleys of the Khumbu district. For the following 5 hours, we pass through typical Sherpa villages of Phakding and Choplung, where you get to view the routine work of the villagers and view the landscape of the neighboring mountains. The path follows through rivers and forest, giving tranquil moments and plenty of opportunities to reflect on the great adventure. Towards the end of the afternoon, we arrive at Lukla, the hectic gateway to the Everest area and the conclusion of our journey.

Early in the morning, we take a short scenic flight from Lukla to Manthali, a small town in Ramechhap district. The flight offers one last aerial view of the Himalayas, a reminder of the journey you’ve just completed. Upon landing, we continue with a drive back to Kathmandu, which takes around 4-5 hours through winding hills, river valleys, and charming villages. By the afternoon or evening, you’ll arrive in the capital, where you can relax at your hotel, enjoy a warm shower, or stroll through Thamel for some last-minute shopping and celebration.

Your incredible journey comes to an end today. After breakfast, we will get you transferred to the airport for your continued flight. During the drive, take in the last sights of the Himalayan foothills and the colorful culture of Kathmandu. At the airport, goodbyes are called for – to the Sherpas, the mountains, and the other trekkers you’ll be leaving behind. Safe and happy travels home or onward to your next destination.

However, we don't recommend taking a child under 10 years old to visit as they can suffer from various problems like dizziness and high altitude sickness.

There are many things you should bring on the hike to make yourself comfortable and safe. Some of them are as follows: comfortable trekking boots, big comfortable backpack, duffel bag, trekking shirt, windproof and waterproof jacket, trekking shorts, raincoat and rain trousers, socks, gloves.

No, people don't need any basic training to trek at Everest Base Camp. Instead, people need to have good physical preparation to trek there more comfortably and for more safely.
