Tour Overview

The full-day cultural tour takes you to three of the most spiritually and artistically significant heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley – Patan, Boudhanath, and Pashupatinath. Each of them reveals a unique side of Nepal’s religious and architectural heritage and introduces you to the perfect harmony between Hinduism and Buddhism, which constitutes the valley’s soul. The tour integrates sacred interactions, ancient mythologies, artistic perfection, and spiritual practices into one seamless experience that will take about 7 hours.

Your cultural discovery begins at 9:00 am when your dedicated local guide arrives at your hotel with a private vehicle. The day’s first destination is Patan, or to use its other name, Lalitpur – the city of artisans. Famed for its intricate architecture, metalwork, and living tradition, Patan is full of some of the valley’s best artisans.

Walk along the picturesque back streets and come to the Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you are surrounded by the artistic legacy of the Malla kings and have the opportunity to visit elaborately carved windows, courtyards, and temples that chronicle the golden past of the city. Your guide interprets the spiritual symbolism and creative art that define the area. Before leaving Patan, you see the revered Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar) – a holy 12th-century monastery embedded with golden figures, prayer wheels, and Buddhist scripture etched into its actual walls.

You are returned to your hotel in greater enrichment by the sacred ambiance and artistic majesty of the heritage trio.

Your local guide meets you at your hotel at 9:00 am and greets you with a smile. You begin your day’s excursion in a private car as you head for the historic city of Patan.

Your first stop upon reaching Patan is Kumari Ghar, and there, you may be blessed by the Living Goddess – a ritual deriving from both divine right and cultural deference. From Kumari Ghar, walk a short distance to Pimbahal Pokhari, a peaceful pond said to have a mythological origin. The stroll continues along back alleys brimming with Newar architecture and daily life, onto Patan Durbar Square, where you explore its many temples, courtyards, and palace buildings. Your final destination in Patan is the Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar), the holiest and most intricately decorated Buddhist monastery in the valley.

Then, you ride to Boudhanath, the religious hub of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. There, you join monks and pilgrims in a few rounds of kora – a meditative loop of the massive stupa. Following this spiritual effort, enjoy a rooftop lunch overlooking Boudhanath Stupa, giving an interlude of rest and contemplation. Optional visits to nearby monasteries can be included depending on time and interest.

Your final stop is Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal’s holiest temple for the Hindus. Your religious journey starts at Guhyeshwori Temple and moves you along the forested paths of Mirgasthali Forest to Bishwarup Temple. You are led down to the Bagmati River banks to witness traditional cremation ceremonies and then taken to visit the outer sanctum of Pashupatinath. Despite the fact that only Hindus are allowed access to the innermost temple, the complex is replete with sacred processes and architectural grandeur.

Following a day of religious stories, ancient masterpieces, and divine meetings, you drive your way back to your hotel in Kathmandu.
