Details

Your day begins at 9:00 am when your local guide comes to meet you at your hotel to lead you on this sacred pilgrimage. Starting here, we move to our first destination, the Swoyambhunath Stupa, better known as the Monkey Temple. The hike begins from the west side parking lot. From this point, we take a fairly scenic loop with wonderful views of the Kathmandu Valley and distant Chandragiri Hills. The western path has the Saraswati Temple, a peaceful pond area, and smaller stupas and chaityas, all adding to the sanctity of the site. We then climb the famous staircase of 365 steps to the main stupa, Swoyambhunath.

This ancient monument is reputed to have emerged out of a lotus flower and is also accompanied by symbolic beacons such as the Bajra (thunderbolt), Anantapur and Pratappur temples, Harati Mata Temple, and a grouping of chaityas in the shape of a serene chaitya park.

We turn to walk clockwise around the central stupa and then descend the staircase to bid farewell to our vehicle to proceed towards Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the ancient Kathmandu Durbar Square, referred to as Hanuman Dhoka or Basantapur, you enter what is called the "Museum of Temples." Consisting of over 50 temples, the square is a living museum of Nepalese culture. Our tour starts off at the Kasthamandap, after which there are places such as Maru Ganesh, Shiva Narayan Temple, Kal Bhairav statue, the small replica of Pashupatinath, Taleju Bhagwati Temple, and Jagannath Temple—so renowned for its erotic wood carvings.

Itinerary

Hotel pick-up

Your day begins as your host guide picks you up at your hotel. After a brief overview of the day's agenda, you embark on your journey to the heart of Kathmandu's spiritual roots.

Visit Swoyambhunath (Monkey Temple)

We reach the west parking place and begin our tour with a peaceful walk along the Saraswati Temple and peaceful pond. We enjoy a scenic loop offering panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley. We ascend the historic 365 steps to reach the central stupa, where we explore its religious sites—chaityas, the Bajra, Anantapur & Pratappur shrines, and Harati Mata Temple. The religious and historical importance of the stupa is explained properly before descending and going ahead.

Self-guided visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square

In a short drive, we find ourselves at Kathmandu Durbar Square. We pass through a series of courtyards and temples—Kasthamandap, Maru Ganesh, Kal Bhairav, and Taleju Temple, among others. Our guide tells us the history behind each of the monuments, like the erotic sculptures at Jagannath Temple and the royal significance of Nasal and Nho Chowks. If time allows, we have a spiritual visit to the Kumari Ghar for a blessing from the Living Goddess.

Lunch at a rooftop restaurant

A good lunch is enjoyed in a top-rated rooftop restaurant with bird's-eye views over the palace square. You can relax, relax, and look at the artistic skyline of the old city of Kathmandu while enjoying local or continental cuisine

Take a leisurely walk along Indra Chowk and Freak Street

In the afternoon, we walk along the crowded bazaars of Indra Chowk and the historically renowned Freak Street. This is where you need to browse for local handicrafts, pashmina, thangka paintings, or conventional souvenirs.

Visit to Pashupatinath Temple

Our final stop is the Pashupatinath Temple, which is the holy temple. We begin at Guhyeshwori Temple and go through the forest road via Bishwarup to reach the cremation ghats along the Bagmati River. We observe the eastern and southern complexes and have the golden roof of the temple in the view from the outside. Your guide explains the Hindu tradition of cremation and the sacred nature of the temple as part of Nepali spirituality.
